Grape is the name given to the fruits of plants called vines. Perennial vines, which have a winding form, shed their leaves in winter. Vine, which is cultivated in many regions of the world and has many different fruit colours and shapes, is an important fruit with many different areas of use. Grapes can be eaten fresh or used to make wine, jam, grape juice, jelly, grape seed extract, raisins, vinegar and grape seed oil.
The seeds have also shown indications of anti-seborrhoeic, antimicrobial and antioxidant components. It contains a large amount of phenolic compounds, including flavonoids, carotenoids, phenolic acids, tannins and stilbenes. Proanthocyanidins are the main compound in grape seed extracts. The red colour and sour taste of grape seed extracts can be attributed to proanthocyanidins.
