Yarrow is a perennial herb belonging to the Asteraceae family and is widely found throughout the world. This plant is used for both medicinal and decorative purposes. The leaves of the yarrow plant are thin, feathery and hairy. The leaves are notable for their feather-like structure, for which the plant is named. The flowers can be white to pink in colour and are arranged in tight spikes. The flowers bloom in summer and give off an intense fragrance. The stem of the plant is erect and hairy. It usually grows between 0.5 and 1 metre tall. Yarrow spreads by means of horizontal roots called rhizomes, which allow the plant to spread over large areas. Yarrow prefers well-drained soils and full sun. It is resistant to drought conditions and is commonly found in lawns, roadsides and open areas.
