BLACK ELDERBERRY EXTRACT
Black elderberry is a perennial herb belonging to the Adoxaceae family. It spreads naturally in our country. Black elderberry is in the form of a bush and forms many branches from above the ground. It grows naturally on the banks of streams, in humid and cool places facing north. Black elderberry grows up to 7 meters. The trunk and branches are hollow. It sheds leaves in autumn and spends the winter bare on branches. It forms new shoots and leaves in the spring. The flowers open in May-June and are white in color. The fruits ripen in August-September and are dark red-black in color.

The chemical structure of black elderberry consists of flavonoids, phenolic acids, anthocyanins, triterpenes, lectins, cyanogenic heterosides and essential oils. Black elderberry fruits show high antioxidant activity with their rich anthocyanin content. Other components in elderberry extract are flavonoids (isoquercitrin, rutin, astragalin, sambunigrin), phenolic acids (chlorogenic acid), triterpenes (alpha- and beta-amyrin), ursolic acid, sterols, volatile oils, minerals, mucilage, and tannin.
