Rosemary, which belongs to the Lamiaceae family, grows in countries located in the Mediterranean Basin. In Turkey; It spreads naturally in Adana, Mersin and Antalya. Rosemary is a perennial, semi-woody and bush herb. Depending on the season and temperature, from early spring, lilac-blue flowers bloom. The height of this plant, which has many branches, varies between 80-120 cm. It has green colored and distinctive, elongated leaves. The rosemary plant is evergreen throughout the year. It does not shed its leaves and the above-ground parts do not dry out in winter.
It is an important essential oil plant. The amount of essential oil varies between 1-3%. The main component of the essential oil is 1,8-cineole and its ratio is between 40-60%. Rosemary extract also contains: rosmarinic acid, borneol, cineole, camphor, genkwanin, luteolin, diosmetin, carnasol and rosmanol.
