The genus Salvia includes all of the plants belonging to the Lamiaceae family, called Sage. While there are about 900 species in the world, around 100 species naturally spread in our country. Salvia fruticosa Mill is called Anatolian Sage in our country. Sage, which is a perennial plant, is 100-120 cm tall and in the form of a bush. The sage with many branches has lilac flowers. The leaves are grayish green and have a velvety texture. Sage sheds its leaves in winter; in early spring forms new shoots again.

As in all species of sage, essential oils are abundant in this species.  Essential oil is present in the trunk, branches and leaves and its amount is between 2-3%. Sage extract contains active ingredients such as rosmarinic acid, apigenin, cirsimaritin, ellagic acid, genkwanin, hispidulin, luteolin, quercetin.
