Lavandula Stoechas, also known as Spanish Lavender, is a fragrant plant native to the Mediterranean region that grows in shrub form and can reach a height of 40-100 cm. This plant belongs to the Lamiaceae family and usually grows best in dry and sunny locations. The silvery green leaves are narrow and hairy, with a slightly silvery appearance due to the hairs on the leaves. The flowers are in shades of purple and pink and typically bloom in spring and summer.
The most characteristic feature of the plant is the purple coloured petals at the tip of the flowers, which look like the wings of a butterfly. Depending on the region and altitude, it blooms from April to June.
Major Active Ingredients and Proportions
Spanish Lavender contains 1-1.5% of essential oil. The main components of this oil are linalool (20-40%), linalyl acetate (20-30%), camphor (10-20%) and 1,8-cineole (5-10%).
The plant is also rich in monoterpenes and sesquiterpenes such as caryophyllene, borneol, neryl acetate, geraniol and pinene. Thanks to these components, black cohosh has calming, antiseptic and antioxidant properties.
